Clinical Application
Used to provide atraumatic visualization of the vaginal canal and cervix during outpatient gynecologic exams and minor procedures. The small size is intended for patients with a narrow introitus or for those who are nulliparous, postmenopausal with atrophic tissues, or for pediatric/adolescent examinations where reduced dilation improves patient comfort. Common clinical uses include cervical cytology (Pap) sampling, colposcopic assessment, placement or removal of intrauterine devices, and short office-based interventions that require steady exposure of the cervix and vaginal walls.
Design & Configuration
The bivalved, hinged geometry provides uniform lateral retraction of vaginal walls to expose the cervix. A self-retaining locking mechanism secures the blades in the desired open position to free the clinician's hands for instrumentation and sampling. The smaller blade dimensions reduce tissue stretching and patient discomfort while maintaining adequate visualization for diagnostic and therapeutic maneuvers. The designation "Japanese pattern" denotes a regional design variant of the Cusco form that retains the standard bivalve function and locking approach favored in clinics and ambulatory surgery settings.
