Clinical Application
Specially shaped for secure capture and extraction of biliary calculi during open biliary surgery. Commonly used during cholecystectomy, choledocholithotomy and open exploration of the gallbladder or common bile duct to grasp and remove stones, fragments and small debris without excessive crushing. The 23 cm length provides reach suitable for standard open abdominal approaches while preserving tactile feedback for controlled manipulation.
Design & Configuration
The Desjardins Fig.4 jaw geometry is designed to conform to the contour of gallstones and the biliary lumen, improving purchase while minimizing slippage. The ring-handle layout with a ratchet lock allows single-operator control and secure retention of retrieved material during withdrawal or transfer to specimen containers. The overall balance and shaft length support precise handling in confined operative fields.
