Clinical Application
Curved Kocher intestinal forceps provide a reliable means to grasp, retract and temporarily occlude bowel, mesentery, and other relatively robust soft tissues during open abdominal procedures such as bowel resection, enterotomy repair, anastomosis and adhesiolysis. The Kocher tip delivers a firm purchase to prevent slippage while the ratcheted handle maintains a locked hold, reducing the need for continuous manual force. Because the Kocher tip is traumatic by design, use with caution on friable serosa, ischemic bowel, or delicate mucosal surfaces.
Design & Configuration
The curved shaft aligns with the natural contour of intestinal loops and improves access into deep or narrow operative fields. A ratchet locking mechanism allows secure clamping at variable force levels for sustained retraction or occlusion. The classic Kocher tip geometry—interlocking tooth configuration—provides concentrated grip to resist torsion and axial slip, which is clinically useful when manipulating mesenteric tissue or holding bowel during anastomosis.
