Clinical Application
Provides a clear working corridor into the external auditory canal for diagnostic and minor procedural work. Commonly used in otolaryngology and primary care settings for direct visualization with an otoscope or operating microscope, cerumen removal, foreign body retrieval, microscopic assessment of the tympanic membrane, and as a guide for suction or micro-instruments during in-office procedures.
Design & Configuration
The conical, Troeltsch-style geometry creates a smooth, tapering pathway that gently dilates the canal and centers the view of the tympanic membrane. The flared rim and tapered tip reduce soft-tissue pinching at the canal entrance and provide stable seating during examination or instrumentation. The Fig.3 (8 mm) diameter represents a mid-to-large working aperture suitable for most adult external auditory canals where increased visualization or instrument access is required.
