Clinical Application
This instrument is designed to provide controlled separation of the sternum and adjacent ribs to expose the mediastinum and thoracic cavity. It is indicated for use during median sternotomy and other open cardiac and thoracic procedures where sustained, stable sternal retraction is required to facilitate access for coronary, valve, transplant, and other intrathoracic operations.
Design & Configuration
The Morse pattern delivers a compact, adjustable retraction geometry that allows progressive spreading and secure maintenance of the desired inter-sternal width. The blade profile and spacing accommodate typical adult sternal anatomy while helping to distribute force across the bone and costal margins to optimize exposure and reduce localized pressure. An aluminum construction lowers instrument weight, improving manual handling and reducing fatigue during prolonged procedures.
