Clinical Application
Designed to provide controlled lateral retraction of the ribs and intercostal tissues, this Quervain-style rib spreader is used to create and maintain an operative field during open thoracotomy and other chest wall procedures. The dual blade options allow the surgeon to select blade span appropriate for narrow or wider intercostal spaces, facilitating exposure for pulmonary resections, mediastinal procedures, chest wall stabilization and select cardiac approaches where rib separation is required.
Design & Configuration
The two-arm configuration produces balanced, bilateral retraction to minimize asymmetric pressure on the thoracic cage. Clinically, the availability of two blade widths (35 mm and 50 mm) enables matching of blade contact area to patient anatomy and incision size — narrower blades for tighter interspaces and wider blades when broader exposure is needed. The 180 mm parameter provides an extended span for deeper or larger exposures while maintaining controlled separation during delicate intrathoracic work.
