Clinical Application
This Nissen-pattern rib spreader is engineered to provide controlled, atraumatic retraction of the ribs and chest wall for open thoracic procedures. It is used to achieve and maintain exposure during thoracotomy, pulmonary resections, mediastinal procedures and other operations requiring sustained intercostal spreading. The two included blade pairs enable rapid adaptation to different patient anatomies and operative planes without exchanging the core retractor body.
Design & Configuration
The instrument features a two-arm, self-retaining retractor geometry with interchangeable blade pairs that mount to the arm housings. The included blade footprints (45 x 75 mm and 40 x 53 mm) provide options for broader or narrower contact surfaces depending on rib size and the desired distribution of pressure on the costal margin. A locking mechanism enables gradual, controlled spreading and stable maintenance of the desired gap, reducing the need for manual retraction and facilitating continuous access to the operative field.
Instrument Specifications
