Clinical Application
Designed to provide controlled separation of the ribs and stable exposure of the thoracic cavity for procedures such as posterolateral or anterior thoracotomy, pulmonary resections, and select cardiac exposures. The asymmetric 12 x 17 mm blade footprint allows fine adjustment of contact with the ribs and intercostal tissues to optimize visualization while minimizing unnecessary soft-tissue trauma.
Design & Configuration
The Cooley pattern features two opposing blades that engage the rib margins and permit incremental spreading. The differing blade widths (12 mm and 17 mm) give the surgeon options for balancing tissue contact and working space: the narrower blade can be used where a lower profile is required, while the wider blade increases surface contact for broader retraction. The 75 mm length provides a compact working profile for controlled, local retraction during standard thoracic exposures.
