Clinical Application
This Cooley/Ross vena cava occlusion clamp is designed for temporary control of large central veins during cardiothoracic and vascular procedures. It is used to obtain bloodless fields for procedures such as caval repair, tumor resection involving the vena cava, venous cannulation management during cardiopulmonary bypass, and other operations requiring secure, temporary occlusion of the inferior or superior vena cava.
Design & Configuration
The instrument's Cooley/Ross pattern provides long shanks and a jaw geometry optimized to distribute occlusive pressure over a broad area of the vessel wall, reducing focal trauma while maintaining secure hemostasis. A ratchet-style locking mechanism allows controlled, sustained occlusion without continuous manual pressure, permitting the surgical team to perform delicate work within the field. The 16 cm overall length gives reach suitable for deep mediastinal or retroperitoneal access.
