Clinical Application

Designed for temporary occlusion and control of large-caliber vessels during coarctation repair and other thoracic vascular procedures. The DeBakey-style jaws provide atraumatic grip to the aortic wall, permitting a bloodless field for precise anastomosis and patch repair while minimizing intimal injury. Commonly used by cardiac and pediatric cardiovascular surgeons during segmental control of the descending thoracic aorta, arch vessels, and similar large vessels.

Design & Configuration

The long-shank coarctation configuration positions the jaws across a deep or partially exposed vessel while keeping the surgeon's hands clear of the operative field. DeBakey-style longitudinal serrations distribute compressive force along the vessel segment rather than concentrating it at a single point, reducing the risk of focal trauma to the intima. A narrow jaw profile and slender tips facilitate placement around aortic tissue and between adjacent structures in confined thoracic or mediastinal exposure.

Instrument Specifications

  • Instrument type: Vascular clamp optimized for coarctation/aortic control
  • Pattern / model: DeBakey Coarctation Clamp 30
  • Configuration: Long-shank, coarctation-style design
  • Tip / jaw pattern: Atraumatic DeBakey longitudinal serrations
  • Typical surgical use: Temporary occlusion during coarctation repair and thoracic vascular procedures
  • Material / construction: Surgical stainless steel, reusable

Material & Construction

Manufactured from surgical-grade stainless steel to withstand repeated sterilization cycles and clinical use. The DeBakey-style jaw pattern is ground and finished to provide a broad, atraumatic contact surface that reduces vessel trauma while maintaining secure occlusion. Reusable construction supports institutional instrument sets and routine reprocessing.

Quality & Compliance

Manufactured by FDA-registered OEM facilities and produced under strict quality control standards.

Brand Comparison

Comparable in form and function to equivalent instruments offered by major US medical suppliers.
