Clinical Application
Provides a stable airway conduit following tracheotomy or tracheostomy. Used to bypass upper airway obstruction, permit controlled ventilation, enable tracheal suctioning, and maintain a patent stoma for short- or long-term airway management in the operating room, intensive care unit, or outpatient surgical settings. Metal tracheotomy tubes are commonly selected when long-term durability, repeated sterilization, and a rigid airway lumen are desired.
Design & Configuration
The device uses a rigid flanged cannula geometry to seat securely in the tracheal stoma while the external flange provides a broad surface for neck fixation and strap attachment. The curvature of the cannula is intended to follow the tracheal axis to minimize local pressure points and help maintain lumen patency. A polished internal lumen facilitates suctioning and minimizes secretions adherence. The metallic construction gives dimensional stability that resists compression compared with softer polymer tubes.
