Clinical Application
Designed to provide controlled axial traction of the cervical spine, these tongs are used for closed reduction of cervical fractures and dislocations, preoperative alignment, temporary intraoperative traction, and acute stabilization in emergency settings. They allow incremental application of longitudinal force to assist reduction maneuvers under fluoroscopic guidance or direct clinical assessment while the patient is sedated or anesthetized.
Design & Configuration
The large configuration features an adjustable crossbar and opposing tong arms that accept skull pin fixation points. Adjustable spacing and a secure locking mechanism permit symmetrical placement and firm purchase on the outer table of the cranium, enabling even distribution of traction forces across both fixation points. The geometry facilitates controlled, reproducible traction and derotation without complex assembly, and is suitable for use with standard traction setups in the operating room or emergency department.
