Clinical Application
Designed for controlled subperiosteal elevation along the ribs and costal margin in adult patients. Common applications include exposure of rib cortex for fracture repair or plating, harvesting of rib grafts for reconstructive procedures, and blunt/sharp periosteal dissection during thoracic and trauma surgery. The right-oriented blade geometry facilitates access and visualization on the patient’s right hemithorax and along the convex rib surface.
Design & Configuration
The Doyen costal periosteal design features a narrow, spatulated blade with a gentle rightward curve and a 17 cm overall length. This geometry provides reach into the chest wall while allowing the surgeon to follow the natural contour of the rib with minimal soft-tissue trauma. The spatulated blade delivers broad contact for blunt elevation while permitting controlled sharp dissection when needed, giving tactile feedback and leverage for precise subperiosteal stripping.
