Clinical Application

This trocar‑point K‑wire is intended for percutaneous skeletal fixation and provisional stabilization in orthopaedic procedures. Common uses include closed fracture pinning, temporary fixation during internal fixation, skeletal traction, and fixation of small bones of the hand, wrist, foot and distal radius. The 2.0 x 160 mm profile provides a balance of rigidity and length appropriate for many extremity and pediatric applications where a slender, strong pin is required.

Design & Configuration

The trocar point tip provides a sharp, three‑edged cutting geometry designed to penetrate cortical bone with minimal predrilling, facilitating accurate percutaneous entry. The straight, smooth shaft minimizes soft‑tissue drag during insertion and removal. A rounded opposite end reduces the risk of soft‑tissue irritation at the skin surface and allows for secure engagement with manual pin drivers or power chucks during placement.

Instrument Specifications

  • Diameter and length: 2.0 x 160 mm
  • Tip: Trocar point for cortical penetration
  • Opposite end: Rounded for reduced soft‑tissue irritation and secure handling
  • Typical use: Percutaneous pinning, provisional fixation, skeletal traction

Material & Construction

Manufactured from surgical‑grade stainless steel for strength, corrosion resistance and compatibility with standard cleaning and sterilization processes. The smooth shaft finish reduces tissue adherence and facilitates atraumatic insertion and removal. Designed for multiple reprocessing cycles when handled and sterilized according to facility protocols.
