Clinical Application

Used for percutaneous skeletal fixation and provisional stabilization in orthopedic and trauma procedures. The 1.0 x 160 mm size is commonly selected for small-bone applications including hand, wrist and foot pinning, temporary fixation during open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF), and certain pediatric fracture patterns where a thin, rigid pin is required. The trocar point enables reliable cortical entry under manual or power insertion and is readily visible under fluoroscopy for intraoperative placement control.

Design & Configuration

The trocar point tip is a three-sided, sharp cutting profile designed to penetrate cortical bone with controlled resistance, reducing the need for pre-drilling in many small-bone situations. A round cross-section shaft provides a smooth profile that minimizes soft-tissue drag on insertion and facilitates easy advancement and removal. The 160 mm length offers extended reach for transosseous placement and external manipulation while maintaining a low-profile diameter appropriate for preserving bone stock in delicate anatomy.

Instrument Specifications

  • Instrument type: Kirschner wire (K-wire)
  • Tip pattern: Trocar point (sharp cutting tip)
  • Configuration / size: 1.0 x 160 mm
  • Typical uses: Percutaneous pinning, provisional fixation, small-bone applications
