Clinical Application
This trocar-point Kirschner wire is intended for percutaneous and minimally invasive skeletal fixation where a slender, rigid pin is required. Common uses include provisional fracture stabilization, transverse or longitudinal pin fixation in hand, wrist and foot procedures, temporary fixation during open reduction, and as a guide or pilot pin for subsequent hardware placement under fluoroscopic guidance. The trocar point facilitates direct cortical entry for precise placement in metaphyseal and diaphyseal bone.
Design & Configuration
The trocar-point geometry provides a sharp three-edged tip that penetrates cortical bone with reduced skiving, enabling controlled percutaneous insertion with minimal soft-tissue displacement. The straight, uniform diameter shaft gives predictable stiffness and tactile feedback during drilling or manual insertion. The 1.8 mm diameter balances strength with low-profile fixation suitable for small bone work in the hand, wrist, and foot while the 120 mm length permits reaches into deeper constructions or external fixation frames.
Instrument Specifications
- Diameter: 1.8 mm
- Length: 120 mm
- Tip type: Trocar (sharp trocar-point) tip for direct cortical entry
- Intended use: Percutaneous skeletal fixation, provisional and temporary fixation, pinning for small bones
- Construction: Surgical-grade stainless steel; reusable
Material & Construction
Manufactured from surgical stainless steel to provide the rigidity and corrosion resistance required for orthopedic fixation pins. The material and heat-treatment processes used for this class of instrument are chosen to preserve sharpness of the trocar point and to withstand repeated handling and sterilization cycles in the operative setting.
Quality & Compliance
Manufactured by FDA-registered OEM facilities and produced under strict quality control standards.
Brand Comparison
Comparable in form and function to equivalent instruments offered by major US medical suppliers.
