Clinical Application
Designed to transmit controlled impaction force to Küntscher-style intramedullary nails during closed or open reduction of diaphyseal long-bone fractures. The driver facilitates initial seating, incremental advancement, and final seating of the nail while allowing the surgeon to maintain axial alignment and rotational control of the implant. Typical procedures include femoral, tibial and humeral intramedullary fixation where a Küntscher-type nail is selected.
Design & Configuration
The straight, single-piece shaft provides direct axial transfer of impact energy from a mallet to the nail head while minimizing torque and off-axis forces. The proximal end features a defined striking surface to accept controlled mallet blows, and the distal engagement tip is shaped to mate with the nail tail and reduce slippage during impaction. At 21 cm length the driver balances reach and tactile feedback for efficient nail advancement without excessive handle bulk.
Instrument Specifications
- Instrument type: Intramedullary nail driver (impactor)
- Pattern / model: Kuentscher (Küntscher) nail driver
- Configuration: Straight single-piece driver with proximal striking surface and nail engagement tip
- Length: 21 cm
- Typical use: Impaction of Küntscher-style intramedullary nails for long-bone diaphyseal fixation
- Material: Medical-grade stainless steel
- Reusable: Yes; designed for standard sterilization and reprocessing
Material & Construction
Constructed from medical-grade stainless steel for corrosion resistance, durability and repeated sterilization. Single-piece construction reduces the number of joints and potential failure points, improving longevity under repeated impact use. Surface finishes are selected to resist adherence of biological matter and to facilitate cleaning and sterilization.
Quality & Compliance
Manufactured by FDA-registered OEM facilities and produced under strict quality control standards.
Brand Comparison
Comparable in form and function to equivalent instruments offered by major US medical suppliers.
