Clinical Application
This blunt retractor blade is designed for use with the Caspar cervical retraction system to provide stable, atraumatic exposure of the anterior cervical spine. It is intended to hold soft tissues and platysmal flaps aside during anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) and related anterior cervical procedures, enabling visualization and instrument access while minimizing focal tissue pressure.
Design & Configuration
The blunt profile reduces the risk of tissue cutting or focal ischemia compared with sharp-edged blades, making it suitable for sustained retraction in delicate anterior neck corridors. The 55 x 23 mm footprint balances surface contact with the retracted tissues: sufficiently broad to distribute pressure and maintain exposure, yet compact enough to permit fine instrument maneuvering within the operative field. The blade is configured to mount securely to the Caspar retractor posts to maintain consistent retraction throughout the procedure.
