Clinical Application
This self-retaining spinal retractor is designed to provide stable, hands-free exposure of the anterior cervical spine. It is used to maintain a consistent operative corridor during procedures such as anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF), anterior cervical corpectomy, and other anterior approaches for decompression, graft placement, or anterior instrumentation. The included set of five interchangeable blades allows the surgeon to tailor the exposure to patient anatomy and the level of retraction required.
Design & Configuration
The ratcheting, self-retaining frame holds tissue and wound edges apart without continuous manual retraction, freeing assistants and improving stability during delicate microsurgical work. Interchangeable blades permit incremental widening of the exposure and adaption to different incision lengths and soft-tissue thicknesses. The design minimizes periodic adjustments and helps maintain a consistent line of sight to the anterior cervical vertebral bodies and disc spaces.
Instrument Specifications
- Instrument type: Self-retaining surgical retractor (Caspar pattern)
- Configuration: Ratchet locking frame supplied with five interchangeable blades
- Blades: Interchangeable blades for soft-tissue and wound-edge retraction
- Primary use: Anterior cervical spine exposure (ACDF, corpectomy, anterior approaches)
- Construction: Reusable stainless steel
Material & Construction
Precision-machined from surgical-grade stainless steel for durability and corrosion resistance. Components are designed for repeated use and routine sterilization. The interchangeable blade system is engineered to seat securely in the frame to resist slippage during retraction while permitting quick intraoperative changes.
