Clinical Application
This 6-prong semi-sharp Kocher retractor is designed for controlled retraction of soft tissue to improve exposure during open procedures. It is used to hold back skin, subcutaneous tissue, fascia and muscle edges in general surgery, abdominal cases, and selected orthopedic exposures where a firm, reliable grip is needed. The semi-sharp prongs provide purchase on tissue to reduce slippage while limiting excessive trauma compared with fully sharp hooks.
Design & Configuration
The 6-prong rake geometry distributes retraction forces across multiple points to reduce concentrated pressure and tissue tearing. Semi-sharp tips deliver intermediate tissue engagement—sufficient to maintain retraction in deeper or more vascular fields but less aggressive than sharp hooks—making the instrument useful when secure hold and controlled atraumatic handling are both priorities. The 22 cm length provides reach into moderate-depth cavities while remaining manageable for manual retraction by an assistant or surgeon.
