Clinical Application
Used to grasp, deliver and retrieve surgical sponges and dressings in open procedures. The Foerster pattern is commonly employed for packing wounds and body cavities, protecting exposed tissue during dissection, blunt manipulation of soft tissue, and atraumatic handling of swabs during general surgery, OB/GYN, ENT and minor procedures.
Design & Configuration
The straight alignment and elongated shaft provide controlled reach into superficial and moderately deep cavities. The Foerster-style oval fenestrated tips cradle sponges to maintain secure handling while the smooth inner surface minimizes tissue trauma and reduces snagging on delicate structures. The smooth configuration is chosen when a less aggressive grip on tissue is desirable while still retaining reliable control of dressings and swabs.
