Clinical Application
Rochester‑Carmalt hemostatic forceps are designed to occlude and crush large vascular pedicles and tissue bundles prior to ligation or division. The 20 cm curved configuration provides additional reach and an improved approach angle for deep abdominal, pelvic and gynecologic procedures, including oophorectomy, hysterectomy, bowel resection, and control of mesenteric bleeding. The Carmalt jaw pattern is especially effective when longitudinal compression and tip cross‑serrations are needed to secure broad tissue segments and minimize slippage.
Design & Configuration
The instrument’s curved shaft improves access into confined operative fields and directs the jaws for safer application around pedicles and vessels. The Carmalt jaw geometry combines longitudinal serrations along the length of the jaw with cross‑serrations at the tip to provide both broad tissue compression and focused occlusion at the clamp tip. A box‑lock construction with a multi‑position ratchet allows secure, progressive closure and reliable tissue hold during ligation or transection.
