Clinical Application

Carmalt hemostats are designed to clamp and control bleeding from large vascular pedicles and bundles of tissue during abdominal, gynecologic and general surgical procedures. The longitudinal serrations provide a firm grip along the length of the jaw, making this pattern well suited for crushing and securing broad tissue structures prior to suture ligation or transection. The straight configuration is useful for direct access in more confined operative fields.

Design & Configuration

The straight orientation delivers a direct approach to pedicles and tissue planes, improving line-of-sight and tactile control when closing the jaws. The Carmalt jaw pattern—longitudinal serrations with a cross-serration at the tip—reduces slippage of soft tissue and distributes compressive force over a broader surface than fine-toothed forceps. A ratcheted handle provides positive locking at incremental positions to maintain secure clamping without sustained manual pressure.
