Clinical Application

Curved Rochester Ochsner forceps are intended for secure grasping and retention of heavy tissue, fascia, and suture material during general, abdominal, and thoracic procedures. The interlocking toothed jaws provide a firm, atraumatic-to-heavy-tissue hold suitable for tissue retraction, placement of traction, and control of slippery or bulky specimens during exposure and repair. Because the jaws are traumatic, they are not recommended for fragile structures such as small blood vessels, delicate bowel serosa, or nerves.

Design & Configuration

The curved shaft affords improved access and line-of-sight in deep cavities and along curved tissue planes, allowing the surgeon to approach tissue at an angle while maintaining a secure grip. Ring handles with a ratchet lock enable sustained clamping pressure without continuous manual effort. The Ochsner-style interlocking teeth concentrate holding force at the tip, minimizing slippage of dense tissue or folded suture material during manipulation and retraction.
