Clinical Application
This center blade is designed to provide central elevation and sustained exposure of the abdominal wall when used with an O'Sullivan-O'Connor self-retaining retractor frame. It is intended for procedures requiring wide midline exposure—examples include gynecologic operations (hysterectomy, pelvic exploration), cesarean delivery, general exploratory laparotomy, and urologic access. The central blade creates direct anterior retraction of the wound edge to optimize visualization of the operative field and free both hands of the surgical team.
Design & Configuration
The rectangular center blade geometry (110 x 70 mm) offers a broad, even surface for lifting the central portion of the incision. As the central element of a multi-blade O'Sullivan-O'Connor assembly, it complements lateral blades to produce consistent circumferential exposure while minimizing focal pressure points. The blade is formed to seat securely on the retractor frame, allowing stable, adjustable retraction throughout the case and reducing the need for continuous manual retraction.
Instrument Specifications
