Clinical Application

This replacement blade is intended for use with the O'Sullivan–O'Connor self-retaining retractor system to provide sustained wound retraction and exposure in open abdominal, pelvic and gynecologic procedures. The blade permits atraumatic distribution of retraction force over the surgical field and frees assistants from holding retractors for prolonged periods. Common applications include gynecologic laparotomy, cesarean delivery access, colorectal and urologic open procedures where mid- to deep-field exposure is required.

Design & Configuration

The Fig.3 profile is a purpose-built blade geometry that couples to the O'Sullivan–O'Connor V/R frame and locking mechanism. Blade geometry and surface area affect how force is distributed across wound edges and underlying tissues; the Fig.3 profile provides a form factor optimized for mid-depth pelvic exposure while maintaining secure engagement with the retractor frame. As a blade-only component, it allows operating rooms to replace worn or damaged blades without replacing the entire retractor assembly.
